Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before your first appointment.

About the treatment

Most clients describe the sensation as a brief warmth or tingling at the point of treatment. It is very manageable for the majority of people. If you would like to reduce discomfort, you are welcome to apply a topical anaesthetic cream at home before your appointment. We do not administer numbing in clinic.

Yes. Electrolysis is the only permanent hair removal method recognised by the FDA. Each correctly treated follicle is permanently destroyed and cannot regrow hair. Multiple sessions are required to treat all follicles through their natural growth cycles.

No. We use a probe, not a needle. The probe has a rounded, blunt tip (not a sharp point), is solid (not hollow), and glides into the natural opening of the follicle along the hair shaft. It does not pierce or cut the skin when correctly inserted. The word 'needle' is an informal and inaccurate term sometimes used for the probe.

This varies significantly depending on the area being treated, hair density, growth cycle, and any underlying hormonal factors. At your consultation, we will give you a realistic assessment based on your individual situation. Hair grows in cycles, multiple sessions are always required to treat all follicles as they become active.

We use two methods, Thermolysis (Short Wave Diathermy) and Blend, selected at your consultation to suit your hair type, follicle depth, and treatment area. Both are clinically established and both deliver permanent results. We use sterile, single-use probes for every client and every session.

Yes. Unlike laser, electrolysis does not rely on pigment contrast between hair and skin. It works on all skin tones and Fitzpatrick types, and on all hair colours including white, grey, red, and fine hair that laser cannot target.

Practical questions

Your initial consultation is 20 minutes and costs from £50. It includes a full skin and hair assessment, medical history review, contraindication screening, patch test if required, and a personalised treatment plan. It is an essential first step before any treatment can be carried out.

Appointments are requested through our online enquiry form, which opens in WhatsApp. You send us your preferred time and we confirm your appointment personally. There is no automated calendar, so every booking is handled with care and no client is ever rushed.

We require a minimum of 48 hours notice to cancel or reschedule. Cancellations within 48 hours, or a missed appointment, may be charged up to the full session fee, reflecting the appointment time we are unable to refill.

You must stop waxing and plucking immediately once you begin electrolysis treatment. These methods remove the hair from the follicle, making it impossible to treat. Shaving or trimming between sessions is fine and will not affect your results. Please allow the hair to grow to at least a quarter of an inch (about 6mm) before your appointment so it can be treated effectively.

Medical & conditions

Yes. Electrolysis is the only method that permanently removes hormonally-driven hair of every colour, because it destroys each treated follicle regardless of hormonal activity. Please disclose your diagnosis at your consultation so we can plan your treatment appropriately.

Yes. Please allow a minimum of 6 weeks after your last laser session before attending for electrolysis. Please disclose any previous laser treatment at your consultation.

We do not carry out electrolysis at any stage of pregnancy, as a precaution. We'll be glad to welcome you once your pregnancy is over. If you have any questions in the meantime, please get in touch.

Please wait a minimum of 6 weeks after Botox, dermal fillers, skin boosters, bio fillers, collagen stimulators, PRP or PRF before attending for electrolysis in the same area. Please refer to our full contraindications page for details.

Inclusivity

Yes, always. Eve Electrolysis is a fully inclusive clinic. Gender-affirming electrolysis, including facial clearance, is a core part of what we do. Your pronouns will always be used. No assumptions will be made. Please see our dedicated LGBTQIA+ page for more information.

Yes. We welcome all clients regardless of gender. Beard shaping, body hair removal, and ingrown beard treatment are among the most popular treatments for male clients.

Intensive & extended sessions

Yes. All new clients must attend an initial consultation (£50, 20 minutes) before any treatment session, including Intensive Sessions. This allows us to assess your skin, hair, and suitability, and to build an appropriate treatment plan before committing to extended appointment time.

Yes. Extended single-practitioner sessions can cover multiple areas within the same appointment. The treatment plan agreed at your consultation will guide the most efficient use of your session time.

Dual Practitioner (double) sessions are for body treatments only. We do not offer them on the face, and we cannot treat the face and body at the same time in a double session. Facial treatment, including full facial clearance, is always carried out by a single practitioner.

Longer sessions do not increase the intensity of treatment on individual follicles, but cumulative sensitivity can build over time. Many clients find that applying a topical anaesthetic cream at home before attending significantly improves comfort during extended sessions. We will also take breaks as needed at your request. You are always in complete control.

Please use the Book page to submit your enquiry, noting that you are interested in an Intensive or Dual Practitioner session and providing details of the areas you wish to treat. We will be in touch to discuss availability, session planning, and next steps.

Each treated hair is lifted out with tweezers during the session, so there is no waiting for it to shed. You leave with the treated hairs already removed.

No. Electrolysis must be carried out by a trained practitioner using clinical equipment. Home IPL devices work in a completely different way and cannot deliver permanent results. Professional electrolysis is the only method proven to remove hair permanently.

No. Electrolysis treats every hair type and colour, including fine, light, grey, red and white hair that laser cannot target. Very fine hair can simply take a little longer, as it is harder to see.

Allow the hair to grow to around 2 to 3mm, roughly a quarter of an inch, so we can see it clearly and treat it effectively. Between sessions you may shave or trim, but never pluck, wax or thread.

We treat the face and body, including the upper lip, chin, jaw, neck, eyebrow area, underarms, chest, back, abdomen, hands, arms, legs and feet. We can treat the external nose and outer ear, but not inside the nostrils or ear canal, and we do not treat the genital area.

For sparse hair, sometimes. For dense areas, no, and this is for your skin’s safety. Treating the same area too intensively in one sitting risks irritation and scarring, so we space sessions to let the skin heal and achieve the best long-term result.

Yes. Patience is part of the process. Hair grows in cycles, so what can look like the same hair returning is usually a different follicle becoming active. Regular sessions, and never plucking or waxing in between, are what bring lasting results.

Reactions vary. Some people show almost nothing, while others have temporary redness or minor swelling that settles within a few hours to a day. Longer sessions and closely packed areas tend to react a little more. Your aftercare guide covers how to calm the skin.

Both are uncommon. Minor bruising can occasionally occur and fades with time. Scarring is very rare and is most often linked to picking scabs, which is why aftercare matters. If you are prone to keloid scarring, please tell us, as this is a contraindication.

Temporary darkening of the skin can occur, particularly with sun exposure. It usually settles over several weeks to months. Using SPF 50 daily and avoiding direct sun throughout your course greatly reduces the risk.

Yes. Piercings are no problem with the thermolysis method. With the Blend method you may notice a brief metallic taste if there is metal nearby, so we will simply choose the most comfortable method for you.

Yes. Electrolysis works at the follicle, not the ink layer, so hair near a tattoo can be treated. We avoid treating directly over tattooed skin, and we will assess this with you at your consultation.

No. You are welcome to begin electrolysis at any point in your journey, whether or not you are taking hormones.

No. We can plan your treatment so you only grow out small sections at a time, for example clearing the neck or sideburns first while you keep shaving the rest. We will build a plan around what feels manageable for you.

Absolutely. Just let us know you would prefer a quiet appointment and we will keep conversation to a minimum. Your comfort sets the tone.

You will hear a soft beep each time the current is released, which simply tells the practitioner the pulse has finished. Otherwise the room is calm, with music if you would like it.

Always. Every treatment is carried out one to one in a private, closed room.

Minimal, and always professional. The practitioner gently stretches the skin with two fingers to open each follicle, and may occasionally rest an arm lightly nearby to reach an area comfortably.

For most areas, no. For parts of the arms or legs we will simply ask you to wear loose clothing we can move aside. You are never asked to undress more than necessary, and your comfort and dignity always come first.

Yes, at any time, just say the word. Please note that break time is included within your booked session time.
